Christopher,

I have a number of clients who are complaining about the number of spam emails they are getting through the Rapid Ex Contact forms. I have Google Recaptcha implemented on all sites but still they come through.

I'm not sure there is anything that you can do about it but thought I would bring it to your attention.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Gary

Hello Gary and thank you for posting!

If you're still getting spam while using ReCaptcha, then you're probably seeing human spammers using your forms to send their spam emails...
And unfortunately... There's probably little to nothing that you can do about it.

Some suggest that you record their IPs and then block some IP ranges.
You can record their IP in Rapid Contact Ex by creating a new Hidden field and setting the values to #USER_IP#

This way, you may be able to identify a pattern and shut them off.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Christopher,

I suspected that this was the case and it is a real pain for these clients, I can understand their frustration. I may try what you suggest but it is also a real pain for me if I have to do all of this.

Interestingly the majority of these spams are in Russian so you can't read them anyway - so what is the point?!

Regards,

Gary

Yes, I agree, they're pointless and very annoying.
However, if it's all coming from the same source, that means that you could probably identify them and block them, which is positive.

Feel free to post here if you do find a solution.
Thanks again.

Christopher,

I've set up #USER_IP# as a hidden field but when the email comes through I cannot see the IP Address - do I find it somewhere else in Joomla or should it display in the email?

Thanks,

Gary

Hi again Gary.
Please make sure to write #USER_IP# in the "Values" setting of the field, not as its name. The field's name can be anything.
